This extension started out as a Greasemonkey Userscript, which was "compiled" into a full-fledged extension whith the help of Anthony Lieuallen's Greasemonkey Script Compiler, which is released under the GPL.
Greasemonkey itself, created by Aaron Boodman, is released under The MIT License (see Greasemonkey's license.txt)
All source-code created specifically for GTalk Emoticons is also released under The MIT License.

It is fully functional as a Userscript, and those interested are encouraged to install it via this method, forgoing the full extension.
